The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and USINDO will host a Special Event July 24 with visiting Indonesian Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita.
Minister Lukita is in Washington to discuss many current U.S.-Indonesia bilateral trade issues, including the trade imbalance between the US and Indonesia, Indonesia’s participation in the Generalized System of Preferences program, and other issues. He will be leading a delegation that includes senior Ministry of Trade high officials and representatives of several Indonesian trade associations. Details on delegation members will be available shortly.
12:30 – 2:00 pm: Luncheon and Policy Address by Minister Lukita, including BRT participants, as well as USG, think-tank, and other invited guests. The Minister’s speech will be followed by Q and A. The luncheon, hosted by USINDO and co-hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will be in the Powell Room

Guest Biography – Minister Enggartiasto Lukita
Enggartiasto Lukita has served as Minister of Trade in President Joko Widodo’s cabinet since July 2016. He is responsible for advocating Indonesia’s position in the current lively U.S.-Indonesia discussions on bilateral trade issues, including the trade imbalance between the US and Indonesia, and Indonesia’s treatment under the Generalized System of Preferences, which gives certain trade benefits to developing countries.
A seasoned politician, Minister Lukita was active in the Golkar party from 1979 until 2014, when he joined National Democratic (Nasdem) Party. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Trade, Minister Lukita was a Member of Parliament from the Golkar Party from 1997-99 and 2004-09 and from the Nasdem Party 2014-2016.
Previously, he was a well-known real estate businessman and Chairman of Real Estate Indonesia (REI) Association from 1992 to 1995.
Minister Lukita holds a bachelor’s degree in English education from the Bandung Teacher Training Institute.
