Curbing Corruption in Indonesia, 2004-2006
USINDO is extremely pleased to join with the Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Jakarta in co-publishing Curbing Corruption in Indonesia, 2004-2006 by Soren Davidsen, Vishnu Juwono and David G. Timberman.  This study, supported by the World Bank, is an important contribution to the anti-corruption campaign of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in surveying the current situation, indicating achievements and shortcomings, recommending further actions, and highlighting the importance for civil society and the public at large.

Electronic copies are available by clicking on the title link above.

Enhancing the U.S.-Indonesian Security Relations
This is a USINDO-sponsored program to review the bilateral defense relationship.  The principal author of this summary report is Eduardo Lachica with contributions from John B.  Haseman on Internal Stability and Civil Security, Bronson Percival on Maritime Security and William M. Wise on Counter-Terrorism.  The experts’ findings, conclusions and recommendations have been published in the following three reports.  The conclusions and recommendations of this report are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S.-Indonesia Society.

We are currently out of hard copies of all three publications.  However the electronic versions of each report are available through the above links.

Shared Hopes, Separate Fears by Paul Gardner.
This book traces the often tumultuous history of Indonesian-American relations from 1945 to 1995 as experienced by those who witnessed it in the making. Incorporating the perspectives of both sides, Paul Gardner focuses on a number of key phases in the relationship, drawing on interviews, personal papers and recently declassified documents to provide an intimate view of the aspirations, fears, plots, and intrigues that accompanied each stage of what was a difficult and uncertain relationship as the two nations tottered between friendship and enmity. Gardner also addresses current issues, including economic differences, democratic development, and East Timor and other human rights concerns.

Paul F. Gardner, a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, lived in Indonesia for nearly ten years and has closely followed events there since the 1960s.
