TRAVEL GRANTS

APPLICATIONS FOR 2008 TRAVEL GRANTS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The United States-Indonesia Society awards grants of up to $2000 to fund travel to Indonesia or to the United States.  These grants are awarded to promote academic and other exchanges between the two countries.

USINDO Travel Grants are open to any person seeking to travel to Indonesia to conduct field research or other professional projects, including conferences.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
There are no deadlines – applications for travel grants are considered on a rolling basis.  To apply, please send a letter stating your purpose for travel to Indonesia to Tom Spooner, USINDO Education Officer.  In your letter, please include the following information:

  • Details on your proposed travel to Indonesia
  • How this program will contribute to your academic study, professional endeavors, etc.
  • How much money you are requesting for your proposed grant
  • A simple budget outlining how you will spend your proposed grant
  • A brief resume or curriculum vitae; if you are still in school, an unofficial transcript
  • Students should include a letter of nomination from a faculty member and ensure that their application is approved by their academic institution

ELIGIBILITY:
All U.S. and Indonesian citizens are welcome to apply.  Student applicants must be enrolled in a degree program.

The Society particularly welcomes applications from graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in the social sciences - economics, history, political economy, government, international relations and religious studies.  However, USINDO will seriously consider applications in any field of study.

The criteria for awarding travel grants include, but are not limited to: availability of funds, qualifications of the applicant, importance of the proposed project, and the potential of the applicant to contribute to long-term understanding between Indonesia and the United States.

REQUIREMENTS:
The awardee is required to write the Society a brief report detailing his/her activities within 30 days after return to the United States.  The awardee also agrees to pass on any academic papers, books and other materials that are produced as a result of the project funded by the Travel Grant.

RESTRICTIONS:
Institutions receiving grants on behalf of a student are ineligible to receive another Travel Grant for one calendar year or until a final report has been received by the Society from the previous grantee, or whichever comes later.
