Requirements: Participants must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institute of higher learning and must apply to the University of Hawaii at Manoa in conjunction with this program, and are expected to cover transportation costs

Description: A 9-month long program that includes 5 months of intensive study at University of Hawaii at Manoa and 4 months of an additional project (in Hawaii or elsewhere).


East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship


Requirements: Must also be accepted by separate application as a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

Description: This fellowship provides funding toward a Master’s degrees (up to 24-month fellowship) or Doctoral degrees (up to 48-month fellowship) while participating in programs at the East-West Center and pursuing degree study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship

Requirements: Faculty members with at least two years of teaching in their specialization. Faculty members must apply through their institutions

Description: “This program funds fellowships through institutions of higher education (IHEs) to faculty members who propose to conduct research abroad [for 3 to 12 months] in modern foreign languages and area studies to improve their skill in languages and their knowledge of the culture of the people of these countries”

Description: Funds 5 to 10 months of teaching, researching, or a combination of the two


USINDO Travel Grant


Requirements: All U.S. and Indonesian citizens are welcome to apply. Student applicants must be enrolled in a degree program.

Description: USINDO Travel Grants are open to any person seeking to travel to Indonesia to conduct field research or other professional projects, including conferences.
