Michael's interest in Indonesia's relationship with the United States began while a student in North Sumatra in the early 1990's. He has taught courses on Modern Indonesian History, Colonial Indonesian History and Southeast Asian History.
He has been active in fundraising efforts for Jesuit Volunteers International and serves as Vice Chairman on its board of directors.
